Fun Friday: Windblown

Whoosh! This month’s Fun Friday was a wind theme (I’m sick of snow and winter!). We talk about wind, especially about how the wind is created and the kids had some great answers to my questions! Afterward, I gave them the Windblown activity paper and had them cut out the seven shapes to use for the story. As I read the story aloud the kids were prompted to use the seven shapes to create the animals in the story.

Windblown

The story has a great ending asking the kids what they can do with the shapes and that’s exactly what we did. We spent 15-20 minutes creating our own animals, aliens, and imagined creatures. During snack, some of the kids wanted to share their creations with the group and described what they were and where they lived.

Overall, with 25 kids, it was very busy but the kids had a great time using their imagination to create something new. Lately, it seems as though kids have so much trouble being creative without direct instructions, but as I’ve given them more time and open-ended projects, the kids rise to the occasion and create amazing works of art!
