#blogbookaday: Feathers and Hair, What Animals Wear

Feathers and Hair What Animals WearSummary:  “Some animals wear feathers.
Some animals wear hair.
Some animals wear prickly spines
and roam without a care!

At first glance, a wild animal’s appearance may seem simple. But there is fascinating science behind every part of an animal’s physique—from its nose to its toes! Author Jennifer Ward explores different kinds of fur, feathers, skin, and scales in this nonfiction picture book.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: I love books that turn facts into fun and this book does exactly that creating rhyming couplets that make learning about animal outerwear fun and exciting – with animals from broad groups like birds and fish to specific animals such as elephants and polar bears this title will spark the scientist in your little one. Definitely pair this the series Whose Is It? for a focus on STEM and animals and a whole lot of fun!

Personal Reaction: This book was very similar to Steve Jenkins and Robin Page’s work – making books about animals accessible to the youngest readers. This book would be easy to use in a storytime, allowing kids to share their own facts about the animals they see on the page and learn more about the animals by reading about what they wear and why. A perfect book to share for a STEM storytime all about animals!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
