#blogbookaday: Dormouse Dreams

Dormouse Dreams.jpgSummary:  “As Dormouse dreams–and snores–his way from winter to spring, he imagines going on fantastical adventures with his best dormouse friend. Whimsical illustrations feature other animals entertaining themselves with dart games, cross-country skiing, flying airplanes, and more while Dormouse hibernates. Readers can also follow the friend’s journey to Dormouse’s house, where she wakes him up for some real life pleasures, including daydreaming. This is the perfect bedtime book to snuggle up with when spring isn’t coming fast enough.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A sweet, quiet dormouse dreams of spring as he slumbers through the winter months waiting for his friend to arrive. While other animals are out and about (helping bring is friend to his home), he slumbers warm and cozy in bed. I loved seeing the animals spend their days cross county skiing, flying airplanes and playing tag, but if you look close you’ll see the little dormouse’s friend traveling through the story to reach his front door. I actually took the time to go back through this story to really spend time looking at the pictures because so much was going on! This is a book you can read again and again and still find more to discover.

Personal Reaction: I love Karma Wilson’s Bear series – she does an amazing job at rhyming (which I can’t say about everyone) and her characters are absolutely adorable. This quiet, bedtime story has the same rhythm and feel of the Bear books, but is much more snuggly and soft. This is the perfect winter night book when the snow is coming down outside and you’re snuggled up warm and toasty in bed.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
