#blogbookaday: Watch Out, Snail!

Watch Out Snail.jpgSummary:  “This gorgeously illustrated picture book showcases the native Powelliphanta snail on its perilous nighttime hunt. A little-known New Zealand creature, the Powelliphanta is not at all like your average garden snail. It is huge, handsome and carnivorous! This story teaches children about the circle of life within nature.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: A close up look at the Powelliphanta snail from New Zealand. For kids who like creepy-crawlies or books filled with facts, this is perfect picture book about science! Learn about environment, predators, food and more in this accessible story for preschoolers!

Personal Reaction: I loved how the snail’s shell was made with a slick varnish on it and as it travels through the book, the snail’s silvery trail can be seen (which is such a fun way to illustrate a book). This would make a great book for a STEM storytime about animals  (plus you can find some adorable snail crafts online!)

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
