AtoZ Blogging Challenge – Zentangles

Program Name: Learn About Zentangles

What: As part of our De-Stress December programming, I offered a Zentangle program at our library. “The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.” There are a ton of resources available on the Zentangle website and on Pinterest as well, which makes offering a small program fairly easy to do!

Where: We offered this in our small meeting space which was perfect because a class like this works best with a small group.

When: Again, we decided to offer this class as part of our De-Stress December program, but this is another program that can be offered at any time of the year.

Who: We geared this program to adults and kids in middle school and up. We had a number of moms and daughters show up to spend some time together and it was a lot of fun.

How: I dabble in Zentangle for fun and was able to offer a basic-level class with lots of Zentangle books showing examples. I created a printable with different shapes on it that we could use to practice different Zentangle designs and then also gave each participant a few cardboard coasters that they could use to Zentangle on as well. We worked just in pen, but I gave an overview of other materials that you could use and additional resources to continue Zentangling at home.

Alternatives:

  • We’re looking at providing other types of crafting and art programs for adults as they seem really popular when we offer them like a Sip & Paint class, Card-Making, and more.
  • Our middle school and teens love to craft too, so we’ve offered a DIY Spa Night, Bracelets & Beads and they love to help decorate our table displays and bulletin boards.

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the 2018 Blogging from A to Z Challenge. For this year’s theme, I’ll be offering you a library program plan with everything you to need to re-create it at your own library. Most of these programs we’ve offered in the past, others are programs I’d like to try in the future. I’m always looking for new inspiration and I thought you might be too!
