#blogbookaday: Also an Octopus

Also an Octopus.jpgSummary:  “It begins with an octopus who plays the ukulele. Since this is a story, the octopus has to want something—maybe to travel to faraway galaxies in a totally awesome purple spaceship. Then the octopus sets out to build a spaceship out of soda cans, glue, umbrellas, glitter, and waffles. OK, maybe the octopus needs some help, like from an adorable bunny friend, and maybe that bunny turns out to be . . . a rocket scientist? (Probably not.) But could something even more amazing come to pass? Debut author Maggie Tokuda-Hall, with the help of illustrator Benji Davies, sets up an endearingly funny story, then hands the baton to readers, who will be more than primed to take it away.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This is a laugh-out-loud story about an octopus, a bunny, a ukulele ,waffles and rocket scientists. You’d never expect to see all of these things in one story – but it works perfectly! Plus, young readers will learn the basics of storytelling it this silly book about starting with nothing and creating a story from a few parts that come together.

Personal Reaction: I loved the concept of this book – providing everything the reader needs to create their own story and would love to use this with a group of kids to see what they come up with! This would make a great writing prompt for a workshop or class on storytelling!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
