#blogbookaday: This Story Is For You

This Story Is For You.jpgSummary:  “A simple “It’s nice to know you” holds so much power in this tender picturebook by acclaimed author-illustrator Greg Pizzoli. Finding value in others as a matter of course, the narrator accepts and appreciates difference as the foundation of a life-long friendship. This Story Is for You celebrates moments of kindness throughout, from the small to the grand in a heartwarming tale of human connection.
The warm, comforting text shares the tone of a Ruth Krauss classic and is balanced by Greg’s energetic color palette and signature visual humor. This book is sure to be a special read for parents, children, and their friends for years to come.” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: This is the story of life-long friendship and celebrating differences and kindness over a long period. This would be a great title to purchase for a friend moving away or for kids to read if their friends are moving away as friendship is stronger than the distance and this book celebrates the power of friendship. Also, check out the spreads when you open and close the book (under the flaps of the dust jacket) for a little more to the story!

Personal Reaction: At the Public Library Association conference in March, I got a chance to hear Greg Pizzoli speak about this new title and he read it aloud. It’s always interesting to hear about how a story came together and in this case, it was actually a poem that Greg wrote and the later worked with his editor to create a cohesive storyline for a picture book. I loved the quiet nature of this story and the love you feel as the narrator travels through the story. I think this would be best served as a one-on-one story where lots of asides could occur as you tell your little one what makes them different and special.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
