34647486.jpgSummary:  “Spend the day with Mimi and her granddaughter in this charming picture book about the magic found in Mimi’s favorite accessory, perfect for readers who love How to Babysit a Grandma!

When Grandma Mimi comes to visit, she always brings warm hugs, sweet treats…and her purse. You never know what she’ll have in there–fancy jewelry, tokens from around the world, or something special just for her granddaughter. It might look like a normal bag from the outside, but Mimi and her granddaughter know that it’s pure magic!

In this adorable, energetic ode to visits from grandma, beloved picture book creator Vanessa Brantley-Newton shows how an ordinary day can become extraordinary.”

Review: Mimi’s purse is always full of surprises, so today a little granddaughter and her Mimi explore what’s in Mimi’s purse and how it makes her the best Mimi in the world. Lipstick, earrings, a scarf, some candy, memories and a special present are all in Mimi’s big purse. But, sharing the special day together is the best present of all.

Personal Reaction: I thought this was such a sweet story about an everyday experience between a granddaughter and her grandmother. Growing up, I didn’t get to see my grandmother very often (maybe once a year or so), so anytime there’s a strong relationship between a child and their grandparent, it makes me smile! I’m lucky to still have my grandmother alive and get to know her as an adult and I’m always amazed as I learn more about her. So this sweet ordinary day experience in a picture book form would be a special read aloud between a grandma and her granddaughter.

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
