#blogbookaday: The Chupacabra Ate the Candelabra

30687869Summary:  “Like most goats, Jayna, Bumsie, and Pep’s greatest fear is being eaten for dinner by the legendary chupacabra. (It’s common knowledge that goats are a chupacabra’s favorite food!) One night, tired of living in fear, the impetuous goats whip out their trusty candelabra and head off to find the beast and scare it away before it can find them. Little do they know that candelabras are the chupacabra’s third-favorite food . . . and he isn’t about to stop there. This chupacabra has quite the appetite, and the goats are in for a big surprise!” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: The goats are scared of the chupacabra eating them whole, but then Janya comes up with a great idea – scare off the chupacabra first and then they’ll have nothing to fear. When the three goats finally do meet the chupacabra, they’re in for a surprise and learn the unexpected food that the chupacabra find delicious! The illustrations are so bright and colorful in this book, the perfect way to introduce an imaginary beast!

Personal Reaction: I think that kids will find this book silly with lots of fun words to say and surprises to be had. I think the kids will be as surprised as the goats when they learn what the chupcabra’s three most favorite things to eat are! This is a great book for talking about favorite foods, not judging someone by what you’ve heard about them and maybe for trying something new, although maybe not a cucaracha!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
