i’d like a chicken for my birthday.
i’d like a ball to bounce and bounce.
i’d like a big cake on my birthday
with lots of chocolate on my birthday
and lots of candles on my birthday
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6!” (Taken from Goodreads)

Review: Written from a child’s impatient perspective, this adorable birthday story is one that you hear from kids all the time as they anxiously await their own special day! Julie Fogliano’s poetic verses run at a breakneck pace as questions and statements collide as the narrator gets more and more excited about her birthday. Christian Robinson’s collage style showcases candles, cake, balloons and all things birthday (including a chicken!) with a simple style that is child-like and perfect! This is the perfect title for your own soon-to-be six year old (or anyone for that matter) who can’t wait for their birthday day to come!

Personal Reaction: With my own birthday just a couple days after Christmas were always very careful to make the day special with a special out-to-eat lunch wherever I wanted to go just me and my dad, to picking my favorite food for dinner and choosing what kind of cake I wanted (in a house with three siblings – these were all really exciting choices to be able to make!) I remember even though Christmas was a big day, celebrating my birthday meant so much to me!

#blogbookaday (1)This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
