Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Were a Chore to Get Through

5 Sep

difficult books

I read a number of these years ago and I’d really like to go back and re-read at least a little bit of them to see if I feel the same way. Most of the books on this list are loved by others, but for whatever reason I just couldn’t get into them and that’s what is awesome about books – if you don’t like one (or ten), there are about a gazillion other titles to try!

  1. Fair Coin by E.C. Myers
  2. The Murdstone Trilogy by Mal Peet
  3. The Finisher by David Baldacci
  4. Far, Far Away by Tom McNeal
  5. Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu
  6. A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty
  7. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
  8. Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner
  9. Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead
  10. What Came From the Stars by Gary D. Schmidt

I recommend doing Far Far Away on audio. I was transfixed! I had a hard time with Breadcrumbs as well. I started listening to it on audio, hoping to use it for a middle school book club, but it was so bleak and I just didn’t want to finish it! I abandoned Liar and Spy too! Even though I generally love Rebecca Stead, particularly First Light, which is my favorite!
