Top Ten Tuesday: Books That Were a Chore to Get Through
I read a number of these years ago and I’d really like to go back and re-read at least a little bit of them to see if I feel the same way. Most of the books on this list are loved by others, but for whatever reason I just couldn’t get into them and that’s what is awesome about books – if you don’t like one (or ten), there are about a gazillion other titles to try!
- Fair Coin by E.C. Myers
- The Murdstone Trilogy by Mal Peet
- The Finisher by David Baldacci
- Far, Far Away by Tom McNeal
- Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu
- A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty
- A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
- Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner
- Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead
- What Came From the Stars by Gary D. Schmidt

I recommend doing Far Far Away on audio. I was transfixed! I had a hard time with Breadcrumbs as well. I started listening to it on audio, hoping to use it for a middle school book club, but it was so bleak and I just didn’t want to finish it! I abandoned Liar and Spy too! Even though I generally love Rebecca Stead, particularly First Light, which is my favorite!
