Flannel Friday: Balloons

1242395

This is a quick and easy flannel I’m putting together for my Balloon themed storytime in a few weeks.  In the story Balloons, Balloons, Balloons by Dee Lillegard, the stanza, “balloons, balloons, balloons” is repeated throughout the book, so I’m hoping that by pointing to our flannelboard balloons the kids will be able to repeat the refrain with me as we read the book together.  I like the chance to offer simple ideas like this. I like to encourage kids who are different types of learners to gain more content from the story.

If I have time, I’d like to also cut out a balloon shape for each of the kids. Then they can hold it up every time they hear the word balloon in storytime that day. This won’t be difficult, because just like the felt balloons, I can use the Ellison machine to cut out a bunch of balloons very quickly.  And the bonus is we don’t have to worry about latex allergies.  Just a little something different than our typical lesson plan.
