Blogging A to Z: Pirates

19 Apr

Letter O

During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge.  My theme for the month is Storytime Plans From A to Z.  Each plan will have eight stories as well as four songs, fingerplays or rhymes to match the theme!  As you can see, I’ll try and attribute where I found all of this fun (and often you can find it in multiple places).  My goal is to make storytime planning a little easier on myself in the future and to make storytime planning for other librarians easy as well!

Book List:

  1. Shiver Me Letters: A Pirate ABC by June Sobel
  2. Dirty Joe the Pirate by Bill Harley
  3. Pirates Love Underpants by Claire Freedman
  4. Bubble Bath Pirates by Jarrett J. Krosoczka
  5. How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long
  6. I Love My Pirate Papa by Laura Leuck
  7. Pirate Nap by Danna Smith
  8. Pirate Piggy Wiggy by Christyan and Diane Fox

Songs  & Rhymes:

Pirate Song
(To the Tune of “This Old Man”)
This old pirate, has a hat
Where a skull and crossbones sat.
With an Ar, Ar, Ar, and an Ay Matey!

This old pirate sailed the sea.
This old pirate had a patch
Sailed the sea without a scratch.
With an Ar, Ar, Ar and an Ay Matey!
This old pirate sailed the sea.

Additonal Verses:
This old pirate has a hook, uses it to hold a book.
This old pirate has a map, keeps it handy in his lap.
This old pirate has a bird, barely knows a single word.
This old pirate has a ship, travels the world in a single trip. This old pirate looking for treasure, more than anyone can measure!

The Ship on the Sea
(To the Tune of “The Wheels on the Bus”)
The ship on the sea goes up and down, up and down, up and down
The ship on the sea goes up and down…all day long.

The Pirates on the ship say arr arr arr / arr arr arr / arr arr arr,
The Pirates on the ship say arr arr arr, all day long.

The Mateys on the boat say ahoy-ahoy! Ahoy ahoy! Ahoy ahoy!
The Mateys on the boat say ahoy-ahoy! All day long

Me Laddies in the sea say… Shiver Me Timbers! Shiver Me Timbers! Shiver Me Timbers!
Me Laddies in the sea say… Shiver Me Timbers! All day long!

I Am a Pirate

I am a pirate it’s true. (point to self, nod)
I’ve sailed the ocean blue. (move hand in waving motion)

With a parrot on my shoulder, (point to shoulder)
No one could be bolder. (hook thumbs through shirt)

With a patch over my eye, (place hand over eye)
No one’s as mean as I. (make mad face)

So if you see me coming, (place hand over eyes, look around)
You’d better start a running! (slap hands against legs)

The Pirate Wore a Red Patch
Pirate wore a red patch, red patch, red patch
Pirate wore a red patch all day long…

The “I Am a Pirate” song is great. My daughter would love to sing and play that. (Even thou Pirates are bad guys and she doesn’t like bad guys.)
