Blogging From A to Z: Dinosaurs

5 Apr

Letter D.jpgDuring the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging From A to Z Challenge.  My theme for the month is Storytime Plans From A to Z.  Each plan will have eight stories as well as four songs, fingerplays or rhymes to match the theme!  As you can see, I’ll try and attribute where I found all of this fun (and often you can find it in multiple places).  My goal is to make storytime planning a little easier on myself in the future and to make storytime planning for other librarians easy as well!

Book List:

  1. How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You? by Jane Yolen
  2. Dinosaurumpus! by Tony Mitton
  3. Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems
  4. I Dreamt I was a Dinosaur by Stella Blackstone
  5. Shape By Shape by Suse MacDonald
  6. Dinosaur Vs. the Library by Bob Shea
  7. Dini Dinosaur by Karen Beaumont
  8. Dinosaur Roar! by Paul Stickland

Songs & Rhymes:
One Dinosaur Went Out to Play
One dinosaur went out to play
On a giant fern one day
She had such enormous fun
That she called for another dinosaur to come:
(Raise hands to cup mouth, and call loudly) Oh, Diiiiiiiiiinosaur!
(Slap hands on thighs to make “running” sounds)

Two dinosaurs went out to play…
Three dinosaurs…
Four dinosaurs…

Five dinosaurs went out to play
On a giant fern one day
They had such enormous fun
That they played until the day was done!

Dino Ditty
Here he comes just a stomping with his feet singing
“Dino ditty, ditty dum, ditty do.” Kids sang this part with me
Searching all round for something good to eat singing,
“Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do.”
He’s huge, (He’s huge), He’s strong, (He’s strong.)
He’s huge, he’s strong, won’t be hungry very long.
“Dino ditty, ditty dum , ditty do.”
“Dino ditty, ditty dum, ditty do.”

Dinosaur, Dinosaur
Dinosaur, dinosaur, turn around
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch the ground
Dinosaur, dinosaur, reach up high
Dinosaur, dinosaur, wink one eye
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your nose
Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your toes
Dinosaur, dinosaur, slap your knees
Dinosaur, dinosaur, sit down please

Dino-Pokey
You put your claws in,
You take your claws out,
You put your claws in,
And you scratch ’em all about.
You do the dino pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!

You put your feet in
You put your feet out
You put your feet in
And you stomp them all about.
You do the dino pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!

You put your teeth in
You put your teeth out
You put your teeth in
And chomp them all about.
You do the dino pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!

You put your tail in
You put your tail out
You put your tail in
And you wag it all about
You do the dino pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!
