My New Ukulele

Probably six months ago, I mentioned to my boyfriend that I thought it would be cool to buy a ukulele and learn how to play it for storytime.  It was one of those things I mentioned, somewhat in passing and at the time didn’t have the money to spend.  Lo and behold, he remembered our conversation and for my birthday I received a beautiful concert ukulele made of rich mahogany with mother of pearl inlay.  Needless to say, I fell in love immediately!
I was showing her off at my surprise birthday party (also put together by my amazing boyfriend!) and telling everyone how she’s going to make me one of the “cool” storytime librarians and friends and family were joking around and laughing about how I think playing the ukulele for 2 year olds makes me cool… but I know it does!
I’ve started learning some chords (and need a lot more practice), but hope to debut my beauty during our spring session of storytimes which begin in March.  I think it’s a great way for kids to experience music in a completely different way and it forces me to learn a new skill. If anyone’s got any really great (and super easy!) songs that kids love, please share with me as this is a whole new endeavor that I’m jumping into.
And her name – Esmeralda (Although not taken from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, I like that it has some literary merit.)
