The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing

919ATyOjkkL__SL1500_Anymore it seems to me that trilogies, series, and companion novels are written not because the author has created an amazing place with characters you want to know more about, but merely to make more revenue through the books.  Many series have amazing first books, but not very strong second and third books making me disappointed and frustrated.  This was not the case with The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing by Sheila Turnage.  I’m so glad I listened to  Three Times Lucky so that I remembered the characters, setting, and plot because although you could read this one without having read the first, it was much easier to follow because I was familiar with the characters and the place.

Mo LoBeau and Dale Brown are back as the Desperado Detective Agency opens a Paranormal Division when Miss Lana buys the old inn at auction which not only includes the inn, springs, and cemetery, but a ghost as well.  Mo comes up with the ingenious decision to interview the ghost for the 6th grade history with the help of Dale and  the new kid in town, Harm Crenshaw.

Turnage does it again creating strong characters with their own unique voices while also creating a story that you can help but fall into.  With a little piece of the unexplained, the reader must decide for themselves how “real” the ghost really is.  This is definitely a must read for the summer fir kids looking for a great mystery, written with amazing language, and a protagonist’s clear voice.
