The Show Must Go On…

I’m happy to announce that even through all the pouring rain, we were able to hold our Spring Play and had about 50 people in attendance!  The kids did an amazing job and the costumes, props, and backdrops worked really well!  For those of you who haven’t been seeing my update posts about this great program, I’ll give you a quick rundown.  12 middle school students from 5th – 8th grade came to try-outs and worked hard for 8 weeks of practice.  This is a great program because we only meet once a week in the evening for an hour, so in a very short amount of time, we ask a lot of the kids and they always deliver!  The shows we chose for this spring included Limelight Larry by Leigh Hodgkinson, Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems, and The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt.  Each show was very well done, but the audience absolutely LOVED The Day the Crayons Quit.  The parents loved the humor of the story and I could hear the little kids in the audience whispering each crayon color as the middle school actors came on stage.

This is a really great program because it’s not only a middle school theatre program in which middle school students get the chance to volunteer their time and energy into an amazing production, but it also works as a family program for parents and their young children to come and see.  And even with the most basic of props and backdrops, the kids really did shine with their body language, tone of voice, and lines.  Overall, I’m very pleased with the result and now that it’s done I get to focus on summer reading…
