Geronimo Stilton Book Discussion

I spent a delightful afternoon yesterday with seven 3rd and 4th graders as we spent some time talking about the Geronimo Stilton series. The kids had a half day today for parent conferences, so our library took advantage offering a Lego Block Party as well as the book discussion.

I’ve never tried offering a book discussion on an entire series, but the kids had fun talking about the books they read, the characters they liked and how they felt about the format of the book. We talked for about 25-30 minutes when the kids asked if they could just spend some time reading. Let me tell you how excited I was to hear them say that! They spent a few minutes getting comfortable – moving chairs to create benches, laying out along the floor and finding something they wanted to read. They spent 10-15 minutes reading and it was almost perfectly quiet as they did.

I read along with them, which I think is so important -showing the kids that I enjoy reading as much as they do. The kids were excited to share with me about the books they were reading, stopping by my chair to talk with me about their books. It was just really excited to see how excited they were about reading.
