Types of Readers

I’m spending the next few days in beautiful Key Largo to celebrate a cousin’s wedding. While sitting poolside in the 80-degree sunny weather (don’t be too jealous!), I noticed how different the readers in my family are. My parents read to us for years and they themselves are readers too. My oldest brother, reads about sports day and night, articles, statistics anything about sports. My sister is a big reader a lot of fiction and young adult books; she also likes reading on her e-reader as well. My other brother reads pretty much everything, non-fiction, fiction, and stuff for school – I’ve written in the past about his archeological work, so he’s always reading about work-related things. My boyfriend read articles on technological blogs, follows a bunch of blogs like Engadget and the like. He’s always talking about the newest technology tools and toys. He also reads fiction and non-fiction, but takes awhile to get into a book. He’s finally reading Divergent and can’t be bothered now that he’s into the story.

I was so proud of myself, I only brought three physical books with me (and I checked out 5 ebooks from the library). I’ve already read two of the physical books and am working on the third today. I love that I am surrounded by people who of read in my life. I’m constantly suggesting books to people I know and giving books as gifts as well. Reading is such an individual experience, but it’s when I get to talk to someone else about something I read where I feel like I can connect with them more.

Signing out from sunny Key Largo!
