Wacky Wednesday Book Discussion #2 (3rd & 4th graders)

Frankie%20Pickle%20and%20the%20Closet%20of%20DoomOur second book discussion for 3rd and 4th graders happened this afternoon.  If you missed out on the first one I did, check out the link here.  I had 15 kids participate with all of them actually reading the book.  For this book discussion, I chose Frankie Pickle and the Closet of Doom by Eric Wight.  I didn’t want to choose anything too difficult and I wanted it to be a lot of fun to read as well!

The kids really enjoyed the mixture between chapter book and graphic novel, they loved Frankie’s imagination, his pet dog, Argyle, and thought Frankie’s mom was mean because she made him clean his room.

I want to continue offering book discussions for this group  – they really enjoy giving their own opinions and participating together.  I realized that I need to figure out how to create questions that the kids can respond to, but can also respond to each other’s responses.  Often they are just telling me how they feel, but that is to be expected at their age.  I’m hoping to create some better questions and offer this program during longer school breaks this school year.
