The Composer is Dead

12 Dec

the-composer-is-dead-hc-cI would have to say that Lemony Snicket is one of the most interesting authors that is currently writing for children.  From A Series of Unfortunate Events to The Lump of Coal his work is definitely different and kids go crazy for it!  With that being said, I picked up The Composer is Dead the other day and found it absolutely fascinating.  An inspector has been called to the scene of the crime, for a composer has been killed and the murderer is on the loose.  With Lemony Snicket’s use of rich vocabulary and adult humor, you may need to explain a few things to smaller children.

The story itself is very fun to read, but just wait until you listen to the book on CD; the story truly shines.  Comparable to Peter and the Wolf  this story – fun for adults, almost more than kids, is a great way to introduce the instruments in an orchestra.  Great for music teachers, elementary teachers, and even just listening in the car or at home, this is one to experience!

If you like Lemony Snicket’s work, check out his new book “Who Could That Be at This Hour?” (All the Wrong Questions) and his website!
