Flannel Friday: Autumn Leaves

2 Sep

Autumn Leaves
(to the tune of: London Bridge)

Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down.
(arms up high like a tree then lower as song goes on )

Autumn leaves are falling down,
(lower your voice)

Down to the ground,
(squat down and continue with this finger play)

1 little leaf, 2 little leaves, 3 little leaves today.
4 little leaves, 5 little leaves, Whoo! Blow them all away!

Toddler Storytime Theme: Aututmn/Fall

21 Oct

As I had last week, this week’s crowd was quite large and for the most part, they were all really well behaved!  Unfortunately, with that many kids and caregivers, the general room noise is much louder making it difficult to be heard over.  But, the kids absolutely LOVED Ol’ Mama Squirrel and had a lot of fun making squirrel sounds, “chook, chook, chook.”  I have a little boy who loves 5 Little Leaves and as soon as we get to the wind part he starts wiggling all around getting ready to make wind sounds.  And I have a little girl who loves The Acorn Song and always asks if we can sing it twice, which of course we do.  As of right now, we’re half way through our session and for the most part it’s going really well.  I’m hoping for a little more parent involvement next week and I definitely going to make a point of talking about it a little more at the beginning of storytime.

Opening: “Put Your Hands Up In the Air”

Puppet Meet & Greet: Meet Woolly (monkey puppet)

Early Literacy Tip: Toddlers are beginning to understand the concept of time.  Go over the day’s schedule or say something like, “After lunch you took a nap and then we played outside.”  Give toddlers plenty of time to transition between activities!

Book 1: Ol’ Mama Squirrel by David Ezra Stein

Transition:5 Little Leaves

Five little leaves so bright and gay,
Were dancing in a tree one day.
The wind came blowing through the town,
One little leaf came tumbling down.

Wiggles:The Acorn Song

I’m an acorn small and round
lying on the cold, cold, ground
people always step on me
that is why I’m cracked you see
I’m a nut (clack, clack)
I’m a nut (clack, clack)
I’m a nut, I’m a nut, I’m a nut (clack, clack)
Book 2: Piggies In the Pumpkin Patch by Mary Peterson

Transition: “Stop & Go” Shake, Rattle & Rock – Greg & Steve

Book 3: Acorns Everywhere! by Kevin Sherry

Closing: “Shake My Sillies Out” Puppet Show
