Storytime Theme: Football

The football season here in the U.S. will be starting soon and I wanted to make sure we had a great fall storytime lesson plan that was ready to go for a beloved American pastime. Now, personally, I’m not one to watch a lot of sports (except international climbing), but football is a HUGE in a lot of country and kids love playing catch in the backyard. My nephew loves just about every single sport out there, but he’s been really excited about football in the past couple of years.

I was honestly surprised by how few picture books are out there about football. In fact, I had to really search to find enough books to put on this list! But, no worries, there are plenty of titles to choose from here – some are more recent than others, but check your local library for some of the older titles, we librarians tend to hold on to a lot of stuff! Check out the Gail Gibbons book. Gibbons is a prolific children’s book author who has written dozens of nonfiction titles about all sorts of topics!
