Storytime Theme: Acorns

I know, it’s only June, but I also know that teachers and librarians start prepping fall programs very early! So, to get a jump start on a few fall themed lesson plans, I present to you an acorn storytime. Acorn books are super cute and there are some really great titles out there. Today, I’m sharing not only great stories, but a few nonfiction titles as well. For kids to succeed in school with reading comprehension, they need to learn a wide array of background knowledge and that’s one of the reasons I like to include nonfiction in my storytime lesson plans.

You never have to read a complete book in storytime – sometimes the group is too wild, sometimes the time gets away from you, and sometimes it’s great to just pull a few pieces of information from a book to share with the group. And that’s a perfect way to use nonfiction with a younger audience. Add in a few songs and rhymes, with a craft or STEM activity and you have a program that works for just a day or could be spread out across a week of lesson plans all about acorns, squirrels, or the fall!
