Storytime Theme: Sharks

I’ve made it my focus this year to try and create more storytime themes that I should have done years ago. A perfect example? Sharks! Now, I have a dolphins and sharks lesson plan from a few years ago, but there are far too many shark picture books out there to have never highlighted these fearsome beasts in the spotlight on their own!

We have something at my library called book bundles. It’s a simple idea, but a helpful one for very busy families. We gather up about four picture books and nonfiction titles all on the same theme and rubber band theme together and highlight them on top of our bookshelves. This way, busy caregivers can scoop up an interesting theme without having to search for material on the online catalog while their kids are with them. And let me tell you, our shark bundle is one of the most popular bundles we have (right behind unicorns). So, having never done a shark storytime theme, is kind of shocking to me!
