Storytime Theme: Things That Go 2021
So, last week I talked about “intense interests” and how many kids gravitate to learning everything about dinosaurs. But, the most popular “intense interest” is all about Things That Go! Which, I’m honestly not surprised by. We have countless families asking us for books about cars and trucks.
Rather than pull out old favorites, for which I’ve already posted about before here and here. I wanted to share some more unexpected titles that you might not be familiar with today. As much as I love high-quality construction-theme books, what about boats and planes, bikes and tractors? I hope some of these fun transportation books get you excited about storytime! Share them at the library, at preschool, or at home. Who knows, you might just get a kid interested in something new!

I love the idea of singing this song at different speeds – kids love to act out slowly and quickly! - Hurry, Hurry from Adventures in Storytime
This is a crowd favorite at our library – plus it could also be used for a fire truck theme as well!

- Paper Plate School Bus – Honey & Lime
Paper plates and shapes make these adorable school buses, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers! - Sponge Sailboat Craft – Easy Peasy and Fun
Some dollar store sponges make these boats quick and easy. If you’re brave, you can even test them in a plastic bin of water! - Tape Town – Kindergarten Nana
This looks like such a fun idea and maybe when we finally can have in-person programs again, we’ll try it at our library. An easy at-home version could be pulled together after the kids are in bed for a fun surprise the next day!
