It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 9/121/2020
What I Read
I actually read three books this week, making me feel much more like myself! I read Fighting Words by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. It’s an intense novel written with a deft hand.
I also read Raising Lumie by Joan Bauer about a young girl raising a seeing-eye puppy. The story was great, unfortunately it left a bad taste in my mouth because it mentions a pit bull in a very negative way when it wasn’t really necessary to do so. I have a pit-mix myself and although I’m aware that some can cause a lot of trouble, so can a lot of other dogs. Mine is literally lying half in my lap, snuggling while I write this. And she’s got some issues, for sure, we rescued her at just under a year old, but I can’t imagine my life without my sweet girl. I just find it sad that we need to perpetuate a stereotype like this when there are so many pit-mixes in rescues around the country.
And finally over the weekend, I read Every Missing Piece by Melanie Conklin. Another novel written so well as a young girl grapples with the loss of her dad, gaining a new stepfather, and trying to manage her anxiety at home and school.
What I’m Planning to Read
This week, I pulled three books off my shelf. Let’s see what I can accomplish – Something to Say by Lisa Moore Ramée, Eva Evergreen-Semi Magical Witch by Julie Abe, and The Candy Mafia by Lavie Tidhar. I’m hoping that I can at least read two of these books this week, but who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself!
