Books & Cooks Letter W: Wasabi
This year I’m going to be combining two of my passions – cooking and kid lit for Books & Cooks! I’ll be bringing you great recipes based on spices of the alphabet that pair perfectly with kid lit books! Next up? The letter W and the swirling spice of Wasabi!
Spice: Wasabi
It’s probably not surprising that I love horseradish and I also love wasabi! My favorite part is when you get just a little too much and your nose and throat tingle for a few seconds! It’s a crazy feeling and I love how quickly it comes and goes. Most people are familiar with wasabi if they eat sushi. And although I’m not huge into seafood, I’ll eat a very basic California roll once in a while (mainly for the wasabi)!
Book Review: Yoko by Rosemary Wells
This adorable little cat brings sushi for lunch at school and is made fun of by her classmates. This would be a perfect picture book to open up a dialog with children about food from around the world, respecting peers, and maybe even trying something new!
Recipe: Homemade Sushi
If I was more of a fan of sushi, there is no doubt I would have tried making my own homemade sushi by now. Because I don’t eat it very often, I don’t mind spending the money when I do! What I love most about this recipe is that it explains exactly how to make sushi (especially for a beginner), but also includes how to cut the ingredients and how to make rice specifically for sushi.
During the month of April, I’ll be participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge 2020. For my theme this year (Books & Cooks), I’ll be combing children’s books with cooking spices and including a recipe to bring the book into your very own kitchen! I love to cook and read, so I thought this would be a fun way to combine two of my passions. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! Let’s dig in! And if you want to see what I’ve done in the past, check out the past few years – 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019!
