Blogging From A to Z Challenge – Asian Protagonists
It’s the first official day of the Blogging From A to Z Challenge and I’m focusing on Asian Protagonists. Asia is a HUGE continent and there was no way I could represent the entire continent, but take a look at these twelve books from across the continent. I purposely left out the countries of the Middle East as I’ll be using that area of the world for the letter “M”. I tried to provide a wide array of genres and styles both fiction and non-fiction! Enjoy!
- Symphony for the City of the Dead: Dmitri Shostakovich and the Siege of Leningrad by M.T. Anderson (Russia)
- Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao (East Asia inspired fantasy)
- What Elephants Know by Eric Dinerstein (Nepal)
- The Night Diary by Veera Hiranandani (Indian/Pakistan)
- Front Desk by Kelly Yang (China)
- Want by Cindy Pon (Taiwan)
- American Panda by Gloria Chao (Taiwan)
- The House That Lou Built by Mae Respicio (Philippines)
- Chef Roy Choi and the Street Food Remix by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and June Jo Lee (Korea)
- Bamboo People by Mitali Perkins (Myanmar,
formally Burma) - Samurai Rising: The Epic Life of Minamoto Yoshitsune by Pamela S. Turner (Japan)
- The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis (Afghanistan)
I’m spending the month of April promoting diversity in children and young adult literature as part of the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. Stop by every day for a new list of titles! Also, check out other bloggers who are participating by heading over at the Blogging From A to Z website!
