#blogbookaday: That's NOT How You Do It!
Summary: “Lucy knows how to do everything. She knows how to eat with a spoon and fork, play the xylophone, paint elephants – and lots more besides! All her friends ask her for help if they need to know the right way to do something. When Toshi arrives, Lucy thinks he can’t do anything properly at all. He eats differently, plays strange music, and he definitely can’t paint elephants. She can barely hide her frustration. And when she finally tries to teach Toshi the right way to do things, she learns a very important lesson herself. A simple, funny tale about understanding, respecting and enjoying our differences.” (Taken from Goodreads)
Review: Lucy knows how to do absolutely everything and everyone comes to Lucy for help, but when she meets someone new who does things a little bit differently she can’t quite hide her opinion. But when she opens her mind to new ideas, she realizes that differences can be a good thing!
Personal Reaction: I thought this was an adorable story and a great way to teach kids about being open to trying new things (sometimes a difficult concept for kids to learn). I love the illustrative style with adorable animals and unique personalities. I really enjoyed seeing how Toshi’s interests mirror Lucy’s interests but are very much his own. This is definitely a book I would suggest to families of all kinds as the interests the little animals have will easily be recognized by little readers!

This is a new idea I’m trying on my blog this year that was inspired by @donalynbooks and @heisereads – to provide a brief review of a picture book every day of 2018. You’ll get a brief summary of the story, a review of the content, illustrations and theme, my personal reaction to the book and all the pertinent publication information! Enjoy!
