2025 Blogging A to Z Challenge: Jokes & Riddles

Whoever knew that jokes and riddles would be considered nonfiction? Well, there’s a space for jokes and books of riddles in the Dewey Decimal System (and the letter J is really hard to find a word for!), so here we are! I also think it’s a sneaky way to get a reluctant reader to read more without even realizing it!

I love a pun and a good dad joke, so I’m here for a list like this. And if you’ve ever been around a kid who decides that making up their own jokes is the most hysterical thing they can do, you’ll appreciate these books that at least provide some funny jokes. My niece and nephew went through the joke and riddle phase and when they were getting help from one of their aunts or uncles we were fine, it went off the rails when they just started making things up on their own that didn’t make and sense. They’d both be laughing hysterically and the rest of us would be somewhat confused.

I also think this would be a fun time at the dinner table – throw out a riddle or two while you’re eating and allow the family to guess the answer! Wordplay, logic puzzles, and riddles teach kids to think differently and help to encourage creativity and critical thinking skills both of which are extremely helpful to have! So whether you’ve got a budding stand-up comic or are just looking for a little family bonding time, this list is for you!

2025 is my tenth year participating in the Blogging A to Z Challenge! This year, I chose as my theme:  Fact Finders Club: Nonfiction for Curious Kids with a focus on providing book lists focused on all types of nonfiction books for readers from birth to teens. Each letter of the alphabet will focus on different topics and will provide twelve titles on each list. Nonfiction is having a heyday in children’s literature and if you think it’s dry and boring, then I implore you to take a look at these amazing suggestions! Stop by daily to check out the new books and other posts that I’ll be sharing in April.
