Storytime Theme: Red

Sometimes it can be exhausting having to think of a new and exciting theme for storyime and then having to find books and songs and even crafts or extension activities that fit the theme. If you’re not quite ready to go theme-less (and it is possible!), why not try opening your theme up to a wide variety of options? That’s where this series of storytime lesson plans come in – pick a color and the world is your oyster! There are so many options when it comes to a color and you’re sure to find some books and songs that excite you! Remember, if you’re not excited about performing storytime, the kids are definitely going to feel that energy too!

This is also a great way to encourage conversation during storytime – ask the kids things they can think of that are red. Or you can put up different pictures of red things throughout your storytime space and play a game of 20 Questions or I Spy (with adaptations of course). Sometimes simple is best and with a color-based storytime theme, you’ll find tons of great read alouds, songs, and activities that you can adapt for your program (and get excited about)!
