Storytime Theme: Hair
Today’s lesson plan is all about hair because hair is special and unique to everyone! There are so many colors both natural and dyed, textures, styles and more! This lesson plan was created to celebrate the differences and discover similarities. Most of the books listed below are all about kids, but I had to throw a nonfiction title in about animal fur and wool too, because why not? You’ll get a wide variety of stories, but also a classic –Rapunzel because what’s a storytime about hair without Rapunzel?
If you’re looking for ways to add more diversity into your storytime, I’d strongly suggest this lesson plan theme. I didn’t even get a chance to include books like Mommy’s Khimar or The Proudest Blue, but you could also include books like these about some cultures where covering your hair is important. It’s a really beautiful way to celebrate individuality and share, perhaps, new cultures with your storytime crowd.
