Top Ten Tuesday: How My Reading Habits Have Changed Over Time
I’m sure my reading habits have changed similarly to other people’s as they’ve gotten older. I have less time to read, but I still make it a priority to spend time reading each day. I think that’s probably one of the only things that hasn’t changed! So many people are surprised by how much I read each year, but when you make it a priority and find time in your day to read, it’s amazing where you can squeeze in a few pages. And while I didn’t get to ten habits that have changed, I did make it to eight!
How My Reading Habits Have Changed Over Time
Used to Re-Read Books
When I was a kid, I’d re-read a lot of my favorites, but I feel like I rarely re-read anything these days. There are so many new books I want to read, I don’t have time to re-read old favorites very often.
Read A Lot More eBooks Now
I never used to read eBooks, but it’s extremely handy to always have a book on hand if you carry your cell phone. I read eBooks on my Kindle as well, but it can be a real hassle to transition them from Libby to the Kindle and Hoopla books aren’t supported on the Kindle either.
Started Listening to Audiobooks
I don’t listen to many audiobooks, but I’m starting to listen to more as a way to get my steps in too. I can throw my earbuds in and then get out for a 20-30 minute walk and kill two birds with one stone.
Wider Variety of Books
I read a much wider variety of books now as an adult including a wider variety of genres and formats, plus there is a lot more diversity in terms of authors that are being published now, which is also amazing!
Don’t Complete Series
I mentioned this in my Bookish Confessions post, but I am horrible at completing series. Unless I have easy access to the whole series and can read the whole series without taking a break, then it’s not going to be finished. I’ll be really excited after the first book, but I usually can’t remember what happens between the books or I have to wait for the next one to be published and it just doesn’t happen.
Don’t Actively Track My Reading
While I have my eBooks on my Kindle automatically updating my Goodreads account, I don’t do much else in terms of tracking my reading. I like to read and I don’t want to stress myself out over trying to complete reviews or setting specific reading goals for myself. I don’t want reading to begin feeling like a chore. So I don’t put too much pressure on my reading life.
Can DNF Books Now
When I was younger, I used to always have to finish a book that I started reading. But, I realize that there are too many books and not enough time to spend time reading something that just doesn’t click with me.
Don’t Read ARCs
For a few years, I was loving the option of reading ARCs or Advanced Reader’s Copies, unfortunately, I don’t have enough spare time to read and fully review ARCs right now. I love getting a sneak peek at new material coming out and maybe when my professional life calms down a little bit, I’ll get back to it.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Audiobooks are a newer thing for me, too!

ARCs are off and on for me. Audiobooks and ebooks also made my list. 🙂

Audio and Ebooks also made my list. Here is my post https://paigesofnovels.com/2024/10/22/top-ten-tuesday-10-8-ways-my-reading-habits-have-changed-over-time/.

I feel the same way about audiobooks. I love rereading my favorite books and I still do, but I have been focusing on reading more new books at the moment too. It was fun reading about your reading habits 🙂

Hey, this is all so true for me as well! I’m loving this week’s TTT theme, reading fellow bloggers’ lists is reminding me how my reading habits have changed and I didn’t even realize or remember that!

I relate to a lot of these. I rarely reread books, I now have an audiobook going all the time, and I DNF right away if a book isn’t grabbing me. Unlike you, though, I love to track my reading on GR. It’s fun for me to see my reading stats, but I understand how it can be stressful too.
Happy TTT!

I agree with rereads. Although, I did check out my first audiobook as a reread on a book I haven’t done a formal review on. I thought that might help me get more reviews on the blog. I haven’t tried it while taking a walk yet but I like the idea. I’m enjoying the ARCs a lot but I don’t request until I know I’m ready for a new one and I only request things I’m sure I’m going to like.

Audiobooks are so handy for household chores and my daily commute to and from work. I can get so much reading in with audiobooks alone and it’s amazing. I hope you have a great weekend.

Like you, I am more into ebooks now and read more variety than before. But not yet into audiobooks. As for ARCs, they are an on again, off again thing with me. My ttt post is here
