Top Ten Tuesday: Posts That Give You the Best Glimpse of Me

I’m sharing a little bit of everything today! From posts I love, to programs I’ve created, to facts about me. Each one of these posts gives you a little glimpse of who I am as a reader and a person. I’ve been blogging for 14 years and there is a lot of great stuff in here. I’m hoping to spend some time this fall reorganizing my blog so you can more easily find all the great content that exists here. So, take a little peek behind the curtain at the writer behind Literatious, me, Laura!

Posts That Give You the Best Glimpse of Me

Princess Belle Readalikes

Princess Belle (Beauty and the Beast) is my favorite Disney princess and that being said, you’ll find a few posts inspired by her. This post was written as part of a series of posts inspired by traits from Disney princesses. For Belle, I chose intelligence because she loved to read so much and spent so much time in the library. Yes, you can argue her intelligence for trading herself for her father in the Beast’s castle, but I love the book-focus of this princess!

Beauty & the Beast Retellings

I told you, you’d probably see a few different posts inspired by Princess Belle! Here are retellings across middle grade and young adult fiction that are definite must reads. When the live-action movie came out a number of years ago, I created this list to celebrate!

Blogging A to Z – Leadership Traits

In 2016, I became the library director of the public library where I had been working for eight years. I chose to focus on leadership traits for the Blogging A to Z Challenge the following April. These traits work across the board, regardless of what industry you work in.

Ten Books I’d Give a Theme Song

Here’s a Top Ten Tuesday theme that I think was a lot of fun and shares a peek into some of my favorite middle grade books. I was literally talking with friends the other day and one mentioned it would be so cool if books came with soundtracks… and this theme fits perfectly into that idea!

Ten Facts About Me

While this is an older list (when I was still a children’s librarian), I think it definitely shows readers about me as a person, not just a librarian. While not all the facts are the most current any more, most of them still describe me now.

Life-Size Candyland

Beyond posts about me, I also want to share a few posts about programs that I have loved working on, like this one – Life-Size Candyland. It’s actually pretty simple to pull together and fun for the kids to experience, especially if they’re already familiar with the board game version.

Fun Friday: Windblown

This program is based on the book Windblown by Édouard Manceau and was so fun to pull together and it was fun for the kids too! It was a great way to share the story, while also giving the kids a chance to stretch their own imaginations using the same shapes as the story.

Summer Camp Outreach: Shrinky Dinks

Shrinky Dinks at summer camp was a huge hit! Never mind having to haul a toaster oven to camp or the slightly burnt fingers from handling all those tiny Shrinky Dinks. The kids had an absolute blast and really enjoyed the process and were so excited to see their tiny creations.

Hedgehog Book Folding

I’m actually going to be repeating this program for tweens and adults this fall because it was so popular! This book folding is super easy and can be down for a wide-range of ages so it’s the perfect program to host as a multi-generational program or even one specifically geared to an age group. I’m hoping we get a big crowd for the adult class and will most likely see even a bigger crowd for the tweens and teens.

Help Me Achieve My Blogging Reach Goal

My blog is a pet project, I don’t make a ton of money (enough to pay the blogging bills) and it’s honestly a labor of love that my partner really encouraged me to start back in 2011. But last year, I reached my blogging goal and was even lucky enough to reach my reach goal! I’m on track to go way beyond this number for 2024 and I’m really so proud of myself for keeping at it and for people to keep finding it useful (or at least I hope so!).

top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
