Storytime Theme: Candy
It’s time for such a fun storytime lesson plan – all about candy! This lesson plan can be used during all sorts of holidays – Halloween, Christmas, or other holidays where sweets are centered. But, what I love about this, is that you can also use this storytime any time of year as a standalone program too. Any theme that is flexible is a favorite of mine because when you’re working with little ones, flexibility is key.
I focused this lesson plan a little more on Halloween, because it is coming up soon in terms of when I publish this blog post. With trick-or-treating being a core experience of Halloween, candy seems like a fitting topic. But, as typical, I’ve also shared some nonfiction books about chocolate and making candy which are fun ways to share facts in storytime as well. Don’t feel pressured to read a whole book for your storytime, pick a couple of pages to share or a part that would work best for your group. And make sure to explain to caregivers that building background knowledge is a vital early literacy skill that will benefit kids greatly as they get to school.
