Storytime Theme: Olympics
This was a little bit trickier to pull together as so many of the Olympics picture books are a lot more text-heavy titles for little readers, or they’re a lot of nonfiction titles about inspiring athletes. Both aren’t necessarily a bad thing, they just don’t always make great read alouds for the under five set! Instead, I might focus on the different sports you’ll see in the Olympics and find a few books on those sports in particular rather than trying to find Olympics books.
But, if you have an older audience or more time to work through one or maybe two titles, I think it would be much better with Olympic-specific titles. I can see this lesson plan working much better for an elementary school classroom or library program. Let me know if you get a chance to try it and what worked best for you!
