Storytime Theme: Cats (2023 update)
As a librarian, it’s almost a must-have to do a cat-themed storytime! And while I’d consider myself more of a dog person, there are some absolutely adorable cat books on the shelves! I will give you a fair warning, make sure to read any pet-themed book before storytime, you never know what the story will reveal. For example, Big Cat, Little Cat by Elisha Cooper is a beautifully illustrated story about two cats that live together until one day the big cat has to leave and he doesn’t come back. Let me tell you, it’s probably not the book you want to share with a room full of preschoolers while you’re bawling! And although I didn’t read it in front of an audience, I was definitely not expecting the ending. Other than that little caveat, there are some perfect storytime books, and don’t forget you can stretch this storytime to include big cats like lions, tigers, and panthers if you want to as well!
