Top Ten Tuesday: Reasons I’m Thankful for Books
Thanksgiving is just a few days away and while I’m not in charge of the BIG dinner, I do have family over on Friday for what we’ve affectionately named “Fiesta Friday” and yes, we have a massive taco bar with all the toppings you could ever ask for! And since part of Thanksgiving is to think about what we’re thankful for, this is the perfect theme for this week. So, without further ado, here are the ten reasons I’m thankful for books!
Reasons I’m Thankful for Books
Provide an Escape
First and foremost, books are my escape from the world. As an introvert in a public-facing position, books help me to recharge my batteries after a long day. In fact, I’ve found that I have a much better temperament when I read on a regular basis – at least 15ish minutes a day!
Learn Something New
I love to learn, so books are a natural place for me to learn about the world. I don’t have two master’s degrees for nothing and more often than not I’ll combine learning online with finding information in books too.
Allow Me to Travel
I want to travel all over the world, but with limited time (and finances!) reading books is the next best thing! And books allow me to travel beyond just locations, but through time as well.
Make Me Think
Books make me think outside of what I know. I learn about new places, people, concepts, ideas, thoughts! I don’t always want to have to think, but even reading fun fiction titles, I often learn a little something.
Encouraged Me to Start a Blog
I started blogging over ten years ago when my partner suggested that I share my passion for books with you, the reader. I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for so long and I’m so glad that I get to share all about books with people I may never meet in real life.
Help Me Connect To People
And speaking of meeting people, books have helped me to connect with people by talking about what I’m reading, and sharing my thoughts on blog, and on social media.
Give Me All the Feels
Whether I want to laugh out loud or cry my eyes out, there’s a book for that!
There’s Always Something That Fits My Mood
And along with all the feels, I can find something to read no matter what I’m feeling. It doesn’t matter what I want to read – genre, format, style, mood – I’m always going to be able to find something to read.
Available at All Times
I’ve really gotten into reading on my Kindle because it makes it so easy to read literally anywhere I go! If I don’t have my Kindle close, I always have my phone on me, so the Kindle app is a great resource. Even if it’s only a few minutes while making dinner or before work.
Formed Me Into the Person I Am Today
I’ve loved to read as soon as I learned how. Reading has been an integral part of my childhood as well as my adulthood and I can’t imagine who I’d be today without books in my life!
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

These are all great reason! I’m more of a paper book than an e-book person, but I’m still really grateful for technology that allows me to read literally anywhere. I’m much more patient about waiting in lines, doctor’s offices, etc. when I have something to read!
Oh, and I love the idea of Fiesta Friday. Tacos=yum.
Happy TTT!
