12 Fantasy Middle Grade Graphic Novels
Fantasy middle grade graphic novels are probably one of the absolute furthest genres and formats of books that I feel like I would enjoy and yet look at this awesome collection of 12 fantasy middle grade graphic novels! These are recently published (think the past three years) and were ones that I wasn’t necessarily as familiar with compared to other graphic novesl that I see at the library.
It’s hard to know all the amazing titles being published in any given year and when I’m given the chance, I love to be able to share lesser-known titles with my readers. Here you’ll find a wide array of main characters, settings, and even the types of fantasy. You’ll find dragons, monsters, magic, and mermaids and a whole lot more.
And, yes, before you even ask. Reading graphic novels “counts”. I don’t know where this idea of reading graphic novels was “too easy” and “didn’t count” as real reading. Kids’ brains work extra hard to not only interpret text, but to read the images as well using these skills to gather the whole story between the words and the pictures. As with all formats, kids gain empathy when reading as they learn about the world around them (and that doesn’t mean only when they read realistic fiction stories).
So, if you’ve got a kid who is voracious when it comes to graphic novels, try these titles and see what they think!

Artie and the Wolf Moon by Olivia Stephens
