Storytime Theme: Black Voices
Although Black History Month is almost over, you can use this storytime lesson plan anytime during the year! Extremely important, Black history can be a little difficult to cover in a thirty-minute storytime for toddlers and preschoolers, so rather than focusing on history or biographies (which you could also do!). I decided to highlight Black creators, picture book authors and illustrators who are adding beautiful books to our library’s collection.
Some of these titles focus on self-affirmation and self-love, while others are just slice-of-life type story that centers around Black characters. Either way, you’ll find some amazing stories to share in your library, school classroom, or at home! And don’t forget that these authors and illustrators often have a large collection of other titles and that this is only a brief little snippet of what’s available from Black creators.
