Mathematics Day (& Books!)
It’s Mathematics Day! And although I use my math skills (hello budget season!) more than I ever expected to as a librarian, math was not always my favorite subject in school. But, just last month I shared a great book list that combines literacy with math skills in fun and engaging books!
Learn more about the Mathical Book Prize from last month’s post. Prizes are given in five different categories for different age groups which means math can be exciting for any age reader! Check out these great books all about math!
You can also check out even more math-related picture books from this post. It’s not as recent but still has some really great titles especially for a younger audience.
Remember adults, kids in your life pick up a lot more than what you expect. So if you talk on a regular basis about how much you don’t like math or that you’re really bad at math all the time, kids will pick up that negativity toward math at a very young age. Instead, make math fun together – cooking or baking, reading, or other activities that involve math without being strictly about learning flashcards. Math can be fun, show your kids how!
