It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 11/22/2021

What I Read

A little work/life balance leads to some amazing things! Even working late a little bit this week, I actually read four middle grade books! That’s a great reading week for me, especially lately! I even got a lot of the house cleaned up and organized. I’ll have some family who will be visiting for the Thanksgiving weekend.

I started the week with Say It Out Loud by Allison Varnes about being a bystander when you see bullying happen. A situation that I expect many kids find themselves in. Then I delved into Yusuf Azeem Is Not a Hero by Saadia Faruqi about the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and what it means to be a community. Then I read Born Behind Bars by Padma Venkatraman about a young boy who has spent his whole life in prison with his mother, only to be sent away when he gets to be too old to stay. And finally, I finished off the weekend with the novel in verse Starfish by Lisa Fipps about a young girl tired of being fat-shamed, finding people in her life that help her believe in herself.

What I’m Planning to Read

Next up, is The Shape of Thunder by Jasmine Warga. Plus, I’m picking up One Kid’s Trash by Jamie Sumner and Saint Ivy: Kind at All Costs by Laurie Morrison from work today. And I also have an unexpected book in my current TBR! The horror graphic novel Volume 1 of Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft by Joe Hill. My partner and I are watching season two on Netflix and I’m intrigued by the graphic novel. It’s definitely not anything I would normally pick up, but we’ll see what happens!
