Cybils Nominations
It’s that time of year! When the public nomination phase is available for the Cybils! With ten different categories to nominate in, there is definitely a category for you. So let me tell you about the Cybils and why you should be nominating titles.
The Cybils Awards are the Children’s and Young Adult Bloggers’ Literary Awards which are a little different from most of the books awards you might be familiar with. These awards “recognize books written for children and young adults that combine both the highest literary merit and popular appeal.” And I love that because oftentimes award books aren’t very accessible to kids. These books focus on accessibility or appeal and are well-written as well.
All the books nominated are reviewed by book bloggers pulling them into a concise shortlist and then another group of bloggers selects a winner for the year! Right now, anyone from the public can nominate titles in the following ten categories:
- Board Books/Fiction Picture Books
- Easy Reader/Early Chapter Books
- Elementary/Middle Grade Non-Fiction
- Elementary/Middle Grade Speculative Fiction
- Middle Grade Fiction
- Poetry
- Graphic Novels
- High School Non-Fiction
- Young Adult Fiction
- Young Adult Speculative Fiction
I was lucky enough to be a first round judge a few years ago and it was such a great experience. Every year I hope my schedule will allow me to judge again, but being a director and COVID has certainly gotten in my way! I often check out the list as a great place for suggestions for kids of all ages.
