Find Your Next Read – Celebrity Book Clubs
If you’re looking for your next read, why not check out one of the many celebrity book clubs? Book clubs are really great ways to have an excuse to get together with some friends. Maybe share some food and drinks and talk about books. TBH, my book club probably should have been called wine club. We rarely really talked about the book we read for the month, choosing to just catch up together.
Whether you’ve got an awesome book club looking for your next great read or you’re just looking to add to your TBR, you should definitely check out some of these celebrity book club suggestions. If all else fails, you’ll at least be familiar with some of the most popular books available.
Oprah
Oprah’s Book Club is probably one of the most iconic celebrity book clubs out there. In the library, you’ll often see a spike in holds for Oprah’s book choice as it becomes quite popular, once Oprah starts promoting it. With 88 titles on her list, you’ll definitely have a lot of choices when it comes to your next read.
LeVar Burton
I was surprised by the lack of male celebrities suggesting book club suggestions. Book Clubs tend to be female-focused. But, I’d love to see more guys become reading role models and promoters of authors and books. It definitely didn’t surprise me that LeVar has a book club, as he has been a consistent proponent of books and literacy. LeVar Burton’s book club is hosted on Fable and is brand new! He’s beginning with three titles- Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, and The Fire This Time by Jessamyn Ward.
Jenna Bush Hager
Jenna promotes her book club on the Today show – Read with Jenna, but you can also follow along on Instagram, Facebook, and Goodreads. She chooses “stories that will delight, entertain and challenge readers”. With a wide variety of genres, there is sure to be something for everyone!
Florence Welch
This was an unexpected find – a musician with a book club! Florence Welch, of Florence + the Machine, has hosted a book club since 2012 after a teen tweeted her with the suggestion. Her book club, Between Two Books, is active on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and features readings and Q&As with authors.
Reese Witherspoon
Reese’s Book Club is actually an app that you can join for free! With titles focusing on a woman at the center of the story. What I, personally, love about Reese’s choices is that she’s got an adult title, but is now also suggesting YA titles too! And I’ve read a handful of her YA picks and honestly enjoyed each and every one! And another thing I love is that Reese and her team are really focused on not only popular authors but also lifting up other voices as well from a variety of genres.
What’s great is that you can always check out the backlist of these book clubs for even more suggestions. Try reaching out past your comfort zone and choose something that you might not have picked up on your own. You never know what will surprise you!
