9 Titles for National Potato Day
I love potatoes, in fact, I might dare to say they’re my favorite food. Partially because you can do so many things with potatoes – chips, fries, mashed, smashed, baked, roasted – and they’re all amazing! Seriously, I love potatoes in all forms. And as today is National Potato Day, I had to share some potato-themed books on my blog. Because, why not?
I’m going to choose to blame my love of potatoes on my family’s Irish roots, but if you know anything about potatoes, you know that they didn’t originate in Ireland. They actually were first harvested by the Incan in Peru and other areas of South American including Colombia and Chile around 8000 BCE. IThey weren’t even brought to Europe until the 1500s. Most people equate potatoes to Ireland because of the Great Hunger, or Irish Potato Famine that lasted between 1845-1849.
Check out these fun facts about potato-loving people in the U.S. on National Today. Like, almost 1 in 4 people choose curly fries as their favorite! Nearly half the people surveyed, prefer Lay’s as their potato chip of choice.
