Six Children’s Books Set in Afghanistan
My heart breaks for the people of Afghanistan. Of what has already happened and what will come with the Taliban in control of the whole country. Many of the stories below highlight educational opportunities for girls. All set in a country where education hasn’t always been possible, let alone encouraged. I’ve come to rely on this blog to help me process strong emotions, whether it’s part of my personal life or larger topics or issues affecting the world. Today, I’m sharing six children’s books set in Afghanistan.
Kids absorb way more than adults give them credit for. This means, as adults, it’s our job to educate them with age-appropriate content. We must also share with them that in the midst of all that is happening there are people – families just like theirs that are being affected. Afghanistan can’t be seen as just the Taliban. Because with its rich history and resilient people, it’s so much more than that.

I’m not sure how to help at this time. I hate this feeling of helplessness. Right now, I can offer you these titles. And as much as I hate the phrase, my thoughts and prayers to the families in Afghanistan reeling from such a horrific situation.
