Four on Friday: Flamingoes

Flamingoes are my absolute favorite birds by far! And they have been since I was little. I love their long spindly legs and their gorgeous pink feathers. Did you know that flamingoes are pink because of the shrimp they eat? What a cool fact! Today I’m sharing four flamingo-themed books from picture books to nonfiction, wordless and text-filled.

Four on Friday: Flamingoes

  • Flamingo Sunset by Jonathan London, illustrated by Kristina Rodanas
“In this introduction to one of nature’s most gorgeous birds, young readers will experience the life cycle of the flamingo. First, the female lays an egg at the water’s edge. Then she and her mate take turns sitting on the egg to keep it warm. Eventually, a sticky head peeks out! Then the parents feed the wobbly chick and watch him grow…until he’s ready to fly and start his own life as an adult bird.”
  • Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle
“In this innovative wordless picture book with interactive flaps, Flora and her graceful flamingo friend explore the trials and joys of friendship through an elaborate synchronized dance. With a twist, a turn, and even a flop, these unlikely friends learn at last how to dance together in perfect harmony. “
  • Fussy Flamingo by Shelly Vaughan James, illustrated by Matthew Rivera
“A hysterical flamingo children’s book about a picky eater and her encouraging parents, perfect for fans of Grumpy Monkey and I Don’t Want to Be a Frog. Great for toddlers, preschoolers and early readers who may be fussy about certain foods!”
