It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 5/24/2021

What I Read

I had a super productive weekend! It wasn’t necessarily spent reading, but there were so many projects around the house that I was able to work on. It was amazing. As I’ve mentioned, my sister is getting married in a few weeks. And I’ll be at my parents’ house for an entire week leading up to the wedding. I’m excited to get away for the week, but I’m also trying to make sure the house and my office don’t completely overwhelm me when I get back.

Does that ever happen to you? You take time away from your everyday life and you get back and you have piles of work, countless emails, and then you sometimes wonder if it was worth it? Well, time for self-care is always worth it. And I’m getting a jump start on making sure that when I get back, I’m not totally stressed out.

This past week I read Flight of the Puffin by Ann Braden. Ann is a masterpiece at storytelling, bringing serious issues to the forefront of middle grade literature in a really approachable way. Plus, Ann is an incredibly sweet human! We connected on social media years ago. And we finally got the chance to grab dinner together at a conference a couple of years ago. You definitely want to pick up Flight of the Puffin, it’s a beautiful story of connecting with people and making a difference in the tiniest of ways that could be HUGE in someone else’s life.

What I’m Planning to Read

This week I want to finish up Rea and the Blood of the Nectar by Payal Doshi. I’m so intrigued by the fantastical storytelling and I can’t wait to find out what happens next! And I just picked up two titles from work that I’m super excited to read as well! The books are Glitter Gets Everywhere by Yvette Clark and The Shape of Thunder by Jasmine Warga.

Do you have any big reading plans for the Memorial Day Weekend?
